Soon after a Kiwi entrepreneur developed a novel smartphone app that can monitor users’ outdoor activities and ensure they get home safe, Google has come out with a new tool that will let users track their lost Android phones on a map. Not just track, the user can even ring and remotely erase all the data on the phone.

Apple, Microsoft and BlackBerry have been offering online utilities, namely Find My iPhone, BlackBerry Protect, and Find My Phone, respectively, that let owners of phones track the location of their handsets, lock them, trigger an alarm and wipe data remotely, for a long time. Google is late to the party. However, making the utility a part of Android would benefit a large number of users. Handset makers like Samsung and HTC already offer similar tools with their Android phones – yes, Google did not offer the same on its own phones! Sony had also started rolling out its remote security service “my Xperia,” in July.

While third-party services offered by companies like McAfee, Norton, Quickheal and Kaspersky, among others also offer mobile security services, they charge users for the service.

In a post on the official Google blog, Benjamin Poiesz, an Android project manager, wrote, “Android Device Manager can help (you)… keep your device and the data you store inside your phone safe and secure.”

Android Device Manager will allow users to make their misplaced phone ring at its loudest volume even if it is in silent mode. However, users will be able to do this through Android Device Manager, website though Google said that it would also offer an Android app for the service at a later date.

In case you have lost your phone outside your house you will be able to see the device on a map if it is switched on and follow it in real-time. It may help you recover the phone. But in case it can’t be recovered, Android Device Manager will allow users to wipe it securely so that the private data doesn’t fall in wrong hands.

“While losing your phone can be stressful, Android Device Manager can help you keep your data from ending up in the wrong hands,” wrote Poiesz.

Fruit Peels may Now Help Purify Water

An Indian origin scientist, in his recent study, discovered how fruit peels could be used to purify water, a breakthrough that may help millions get access to clean drinking water.

Fruit Peels may Now Help Purify Water

The team, led by Ramakrishna Mallampati, found that tomato and apple peels act like a sponge in polluted water and help in “vastly reducing levels of heavy metals, pesticides and dyes”, the Straits Times reported Thursday.

The two-year study showed that the peel of eight tomatoes can remove heavy metal ions such as lead from a litre of water within a period of one hour.

The findings can help nearly 800 million people without access to clean water to get safer drinking water at a low cost.

According to Mallampati, an alumnus of India’s University of Pune, the results can help a vast number of people living in remote areas without access to water purification devices and people living in villages with groundwater contaminated by industrial pollution.

Mallampati, a researcher in material chemistry, is doing his Ph.D in the NUS on “synthesis and characterisation of novel materials for potential applications including water treatment and catalysis”.

Alcohol Behind Rise in Breast Cancer Among Women

New research has discovered that drinking has increased breast cancer rates among women and is soon becoming the leading cause of death.

Alcohol has also been connected to causing other types of cancers, including bowel cancer as well as other chronic diseases.

Alcohol Behind Rise in Breast Cancer Among Women

A recent study by University of Otago, says that alcohol is behind nearly 800 deaths – out of which 30% were linked to cancer and another 43% to alcohol related injuries.

Lead researcher Professor Jennie Connor, from the university’s Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, said “Just as the smoke from your cigarette can cause lung cancer, so too can alcohol cause cancer and other conditions too. The evidence is now at the point where there is no doubt at all that alcohol, as a chemical, increases the risk of breast cancer. However, to see it responsible for such a high proportion of deaths is worrying indeed.”

BE   ALERT!!!!!

so please ,all the woman   who are seeing this try to reduce the consumption of alcohol!
